How to Remove Stain from Your Fence

Wooden fences always add to the looks of a house because of its natural beauty but it has to be maintained. If it is not then it will become susceptible to the weather and start to rot. Once a wooden fence starts to deteriorate, it can cost a lot to repair and be a real eyesore in the mean time. Staining a wooden fence is one of the most popular ways to keep it looking its best. It is fairly cheap to buy the materials and one person can easily do it. So, most people will reapply a stain once every three to five years.

Before you can apply a fresh stain you will have to remove the old one because it will prevent the fresh stain from fully penetrating the wood. It is not a difficult process but you will have to gather a few tools before you begin:

  • Wooden Fence | Commercial Fences | Atlanta Fence CompanyPressure washer
  • Garden hose
  • Garden sprayer
  • Wood fence cleaning solution

When you have everything you require, you can start on step one:

  1. You need to get all the loose grime and dirt off the fence so you should start by spraying it thoroughly with a garden hose. This helps to prime the fence for the next step.
  2. Open the garden sprayer and pour the fence sealing solution into it. Close it back up and spray the entire wooden fence until it is completely saturated with the solution. Then wait about thirty minutes to allow the solution to soak into the wood.
  3. Replace the solution in the pressure washer with water and set it to its widest spray setting. You will want it to cover as much area as possible to make the job a little easier. Stand a few feet away from the fence so you aren’t splashed and begin cleaning all of the solution off the fence. Continue washing until the fence looks clean and ready for stain.
  4. Let the fence dry for around 24 hours then give it another check to see if you missed any spots. If you did, just reapply the solution and rinse it off like you did before.
