Building a Brick Fence

Brick fences are beautiful and have an old charm that is hard to resist. Luckily there are many ways to incorporate brickwork into your Atlanta fence, whether you choose to do the project or decide to call in a contractor. Brickwork can make for a very practical fence, or simply decorative centerpiece. Low brick walls are especially easy for those looking to install the fence themselves, while higher brick walls require some heavy machinery that will require either the knowledge necessary to operate those machines.

For a do it yourself project, you’ll need to gather some materials to build your Atlanta fence. Be sure you have spray paint, doesn’t matter what color, shovel, tape measure, concrete, trowel, wheel barrow, brick, mortar. Now, to get started. What do you want this Atlanta fence made of brick to look like? What’s its function? Grab a pencil and some graph paper to start sketching out your idea and making notes. Once you have sketched the Atlanta fence to your liking, spray paint the outline of the brick wall onto the ground. This will mark where you’re going to dig the trench for the foundation. Careful measuring is needed and you want this trench to be about 6 inches deep and 12 wide. Once you’ve done that, go ahead and mix the concrete. You’ll only fill the trench halfway with concrete. Use the trowel to smooth it out and leave it for the night. You’re now actually well on your way to having a stunning Atlanta fence.

Your first layer of bricks will be going on top of the concrete, making the concrete foundation entirely below ground and not visible when looking at your new Atlanta fence brickwork. Before setting the bricks, spread on some mortar. You want the mortar layer to be about a ½ inch thick. You’ll also want to spread mortar onto the sides of the brick. You will set and mortar each brick, firmly keeping them together with the tap of a mallet. Once your first row is done you will continue onto the second, third, fourth until you’ve reached your ideal height.
